News: Informs You, Depresses You.

Hello again fellow bloggers (and/or readers)! I am still trying desperately to catch up on my blogging but I’m obviously a bit behind so this post is technically being sent back in time two days. Now if only I could use these powers for good.

First I’ve been reading the Google News page for a long time now and I have half a mind to stop. I’ve always enjoyed being informed on current events and being in the loop, but lately the news is simply getting worse and worse. Even sections like Travel have begun to have horror stories instead of travel writing or reviews. Man falls from cruise ship. Woman raped at popular destination. Growing up is  quite the drag. I remember when I only had to worry about what cartoons I was going to watch after I finished my homework.

I do however want to touch on a few things, especially because of the things going on in the US right now. I’m not entirely caught up but tensions are definitely flaring over race bias. Personally, I think the jury should have been split evenly between the two or jurors chosen separate from both parties. It definitely seems suspicious when they need nine votes and there’s exactly nine white voters. Anyone can feel just how wrong that seems, even I’m disappointed in that sort of process especially when a child has been shot and racial tension is at an all time high. I shake my head in shame.

Now on the other side of the fence, I’d like to think Police don’t start shooting if you’re following directions. If they tell you to put your hands up, you do that. If they tell you to get on the ground, innocent or not, do it. All this hate towards the police isn’t helping anything. I understand that they are only human, and can be corrupted like any other position of power. But just as they can be corrupted, they are also prone to terrible errors in judgement. I understand this has been viewed as a race crime, but what if we looked at it if it wasn’t, all racial tension aside. This man who shot an unarmed kid (regardless of race) now must live with that. He had to make a choice somewhere along the way where he thought he was in danger, and decided to use lethal force. Was it warranted? I don’t think it would have been, but I wasn’t there. I don’t have his training.

I can tell you this though. We all make errors in judgement. When I was young, I stole to be popular. I married young. I have been in two scuff ups in a vehicle (one on ice, one changing lanes). But in the moment, all of those things seemed fine to do. The thing here is we are teaching people to hate the police instead of trust them. Personally I think the US is too trigger happy as it is, and perhaps this is why these things keep happening. It’s not race. It’s culture. It’s the everything can be solved with a gun mentality. It’s the shoot or be shot way of life. I’m not willing to be a police officer, so I won’t criticise them. They put their lives on the line day in and day out for the general public’s well being. How can we paint them all with the same brush when one or two make a mistake? In fact, they are doing the same thing they are accusing the police of (painting them all as criminals because of their skin).

Rioting, disorder and chaos don’t bring about the right kind of justice. I don’t understand why someone would burn down a store for justice. Those people weren’t police. They are hard working citizens who aren’t making millions and now these people seeking justice have cost them another pay check, perhaps another meal, perhaps even more. Again, don’t get me wrong, I am extremely against all these inequalities in the world. It just doesn’t make sense in this day and age where a person of any race could die in a car accident and their organs can give a person of any race a new lease on life. At the root of all things, we are all the same. Blood. Bone. Organs. The only thing that sets us all apart is that damn organ behind our eyes which leads us astray.

If the world could simply work together, so many things would be better. Health could advance, diseases could be cured and people could live longer and in better shape. We could travel into space. We could stop world hunger. We could use clean energies. We could stop destroying this world and start healing it. How could we terraform Mars if we can’t even heal our own planet? Also are we still at war over religion? Let’s all just take up Buddhism and be done with it.

  1. May all sentient beings have happiness and its causes,

  2. May all sentient beings be free of suffering and its causes,

  3. May all sentient beings never be separated from bliss without suffering,

  4. May all sentient beings be in equanimity, free of bias, attachment and anger

Enough of all of that though, back onto a happier note! Today I bought the pups a ton of plastic balls (like those in a ball pit). I must say that joy is watching them try and find treats within a small pool filled with the balls. They loved it, as I hoped they would. Ah if only life were as simple for us humans.
