Two Trilogies? One World? A Thousand Years Apart?! MADNESS!

Ten days in a row I have posted on the blog, ten! This is a fantastic return to form for me and the frequent writing has built up both stories fresh in my mind. After yesterday’s post about when my story takes place, it got me thinking. I do need to rewrite some details into the Jefferson story. Not much, but enough.

Today at work someone asked me how my writing was going, and for the first time in awhile I was able to beam like the proudest father and reply, “Fantastic!” The best part about these two stories coming together in the same world is that the lore for how the world began fits both. The actual planet in my story is a living spirit named Ellus and only the highest of the Watchers is able to communicate with her. However I’ve already decided that the Age of Magic starts with Jefferson and his mentor Gabriel and only the two kinds of magic, good magic and forbidden magic.

At the end of Jefferson’s story, the Age of Magic is truly underway and for a thousand years magic evolves and advances. Eventually Jefferson and Gabriel drift into legend, tales of their battles told among magicians young and old for centuries. Much like the Age of Demons in Jefferson’s time and even more so in the latter story. But as time in the real world passes much slower than in the demon realm, the demons have actually had more time to prepare. Whereas maybe two millennia have passed since their last assault in the human realm, in the demon realm that may have been nearly four or more times as long.

So as I sit here writing two trilogies (editing the first of one, and writing the first of the other) I find myself slowly going mad. The idea was that Jefferson’s novels are the easier to get into, young adult fantasy. The other trilogy (Which I haven’t settled upon a name for yet, currently Pandemonium) is more Epic or High Fantasy. So Jefferson’s simple world from a youthful point of view changes in Pandemonium where right from the beginning the King executes the Prince for using Necromancy spells. The tone is dark and there are multiple viewpoints, all of which are from characters doing what is right in their eyes… and some of them are pretty convincing. It feels more like an adult novel content wise and the improved writing skills have helped quite a lot with that.

Let me give you a quick synopsis of the six stories, titles withheld to avoid spoilers!

Jefferson Trilogy

  1. Jefferson is welcomed into a secret order of magicians who are recruiting against the rise of forbidden magic.
  2. Impending doom strikes fear into the world as the end draws near, only Jefferson can be powerful enough to stop it.
  3. A strange cycle presents itself and Jefferson teams up with an enemy in order to break free as fate begins spiralling out of control.

Pandemonium Trilogy

  1. Death’s disappearance forces the Watchers to search for the man who wore the mantle before him, and quickly find themselves embroiled in a war for the realms.
  2. As the realms erupt into chaos and civil war, the Watchers struggle to protect the humans from themselves let alone the coming storm.
  3. As Demons pour into the world from theirs, heroes must rise up with ancient relics to help push them back beyond the black gates before the world is covered in death and flame.

Hmm, that should be enough to tease. The gap between the two allows for the mechanics from Jefferson’s story on how magic works takes many new levels in the later stories. Much like tattoos have become more accepted over time in our society, so too do the markings and scars acquired from the magician’s curse until finally they are wide spread and in some regards a mark of devotion.

Well, not to cut this short but I’m going to head off and continue editing Jefferson and I would absolutely love to hear any feedback on the ideas and thoughts I’ve laid out on this page! The hardest thing I have found with writing a blog is getting people involved in your posts. I won’t argue as long as someone reads it, but I’m actually looking to build some relationships with some fellow writers! Wish me luck and I’ll wish you all the best in your writing!

Thanks so much for your support Yolanda! I’m really excited to continue writing these two worlds… not as excited to edit, but we do what we must! Also good luck with your own writing, looking forward to hearing more about it come September!

The whole thing sounds awesome. I don’t think you’ll have any problems writing it as the ideas look full and vast enough. I would read the finished article in a heart beat.

Thanks for your kind words John! In all honesty the majority of my planning has happened after I began writing both worlds… so i’ve a fair bit of editing ahead of me.

Also I saw that you’re aiming to enter a story into a writing competition! As sad as it is to say, I still don’t have the writing confidence to do such a thing yet. The more people I pass my story ‘Circle of Vengeance’ to, the more that confidence grows… but it’s still so personal for me that I haven’t developed that thick skin against rejection yet. You’re stronger than I am, and good luck!

Glad to give the kind words TJ and thank you for yours. Have you heard of a website http://www.critiquecircle.com? It’s a writing feedback site where you give feedback on others writing to earns credits so you can put your story up for feedback. It’s helped me out a lot and you get to read some good stories along the way. After I started receiving some positive and constructive feedback it helped my confidence grow.

I’ve never heard of that site John! I did use a now defunct one with a similar premise to actually get the critiques for Circle of Vengeance! That one was called review fuse, but same idea! Good to find a replacement, thanks for that tip! Hope your writing is going swell!

Drop me a line, wait for my reply!
