Unbiased Law: Episode 12

Episode Eleven: Magnus had managed to once again find himself on the receiving end of a trigger, however no bullet was involved this time. As Veronica made it clear she didn’t want to be followed, she got to know our detective a little better. After she leaves Magnus tied to a chair, he struggles to escape but eventually manages to break free. Upon inspection of his office, he finds some nanites that have been drained leading him to more suspicion. As he makes a call to the morgue to make an appointment, he is informed the doctor is under investigation as the body of the other Miss Radlem has apparently up and walked away. Hope you enjoy the twelfth episode of Unbiased Law (or back to Episode One or Episode Eleven)!

I arrived at the police station and not a moment too soon. Everyone was crowded out front, from protesters to reporters. How does a dead human end up getting up and walking away? As I entered through the back door, I found the doctor leaning against a wall. “Doc, what the hell’s going on? Dead girls don’t walk, do they?” The doctor looked up relieved to see me, but he couldn’t help but shake his head. “Definitely the first corpse I’ve ever misdiagnosed. It seems the odds are stacking against us droids. As we make more mistakes the humans make more protests. Soon I’ll be lucky if I can manage to get a job waiting tables.” I definitely knew what he was feeling. Luckily my past as a human meant I would get careful consideration should things fall through with public servant robots.

“So Doc, what happened, I need all the details.” As I listened quietly to what the Doc had to say he painted a very interesting picture. Apparently he was in the morgue when he heard some movement, upon closer inspection the drawer where they had Miss Radlem was where it had come from. When he opened it up, he found her motionless and thought he was losing his mind. When he went to close the drawer however, she thrust her arm out and stopped the drawer from closing. For the first time ever, the Doctor understood the human emotion of fear. She knocked him over and rushed from the morgue, toe tag dangling along behind her. The Doctor has been unnerved by the whole thing, if a robot could be such a thing.

After leaving the Doc to reflect upon his experience, I walked back out the back door. I was also unnerved. What could this mean? She was declared as a human when the Doctor had done his investigation. But when I met Veronica, she was very much human. However human’s don’t come back to life, so the one who escaped the morgue must have been the robot, but the doctor couldn’t have misdiagnosed. My mind was extremely tangled in this mysterious web of ridiculousness. Maybe the Veronica I met was the robot, which would explain the nanites. Oh man, now I  know what Alice felt like going down the rabbit hole. Suddenly a call comes through over my wireless capabilities. “Yes, Magnus here, who has this code?” The line was silent. A loud crackling came across and then silence again. “Hello, is anyone there? Hello!” A voice came across so sweet sounding it took me back to the first day I met Veronica. “I heard you’re the man to talk to about solving crimes. Meet me at Swinger’s Cafe across town. Far back booth, be there by five or I won’t be.”

I flagged down a cab, wishing Veronica would have been nice enough to leave me my car, but I suppose she left me with my life. Can’t get too greedy now. The cab ride over to Swinger’s Cafe is long and riddled with traffic. I grip the edge of my seat hoping I’ll make it in time. Finally the cab pulls up and I rush into the cafe, one minute to five, and I can see a figure in a rather wide brimmed hat getting up to leave from the back booth. I rush up and introduce myself, not giving her a chance to disagree. “Look, I’m really sorry, there was traffic, my cab driver was ninety years old and he didn’t know where it was. I’m Magnus by the way.” The lady looked me up and down. “I don’t know who you are, but I don’t care either. She turned up her nose and walked past, leaving me confused and leaning against a table. Suddenly the sweet sounding voice came from behind me. “Hey hot shot, not that booth, this one. As I turned to see the girl who called me, I noticed two things that were all too familiar and one that was different. I saw a shiny new set of robot legs beneath a long skirt, and then I saw a match to Veronica’s face and also a hand cannon to match. Nice to see those guns run in the family.

Super Zero: The "After Math"

As James wandered the halls with Mrs Stein, he desperately wanted to go to the playground. What if that girl with the tangled hair was waiting for him? How could she, James thought, she didn’t even know he existed. As Miss Delilah met Mrs Stein at the door, the two had a brief discussion about bullying. Miss Delilah had her suspicions as to what may have happened, and Mrs Stein said she’d make a call. James stayed out of the conversation for the most part, his main focus was seeing if there was a girl outside on the playground. As he walked into the classroom, he saw that the bully had been moved from behind him to the opposite corner of the class. He also noticed that the bully was giving him the meanest look he had ever seen.

The window seemed like a nice quiet place, no bullies out there for now, barely anyone around the school yard. Barely anyone, except a young girl with tangled hair, playing in the mud. James looked behind him to see if anyone noticed her, but they all seemed oblivious. He stopped to look at the boy behind him, who was just staring at his blank piece of paper. “Hi, I’m James, I’m glad you-” The boy looked up with a grumpy look on his face. “When the teacher told me to switch seats, that kid told me he was going to make me pay for it. It’s not even my fault!” As James looked back to the bully, he saw him leering in his direction. He looked back to the boy behind him. “I don’t even know his name, all I know is he’s mean.” The boy nodded. “I’m Alex, and I think his name is James.” They both turned to look at him again and he made a fist in their general direction. Both boys sighed and turned to look straight ahead again.

Miss Delilah finally entered the classroom and apologized for the delay. “Sorry everyone, I just had a little talk with our principal, Mrs Stein. As we all know, bullying is wrong and if anyone is caught bullying another student their parents will be called and they will be sent home.” She looked around the room to judge the response from the kids. “That starts today, on the first day of classes. I want you to know I’m disappointed in those of you who would bully. You know who you are.” As the kids all looked around, even the bully played it innocently. “Miss Delilah looked unimpressed, but continued on. “Today we’re going to start counting, now who can count to ten?”

Counting and the order of numbers seemed to be the lesson for the afternoon as most of the children could barely count higher than five. Miss Delilah was having trouble paying attention to all the children who needed help. Apparently children weren’t learning at home any more, Miss Delilah thought, I suppose that was what teachers are for. As the final bell tolled for the day, James couldn’t wait to get away from school. As he put on his outdoor shoes, he felt something squishy inside. Upon closer inspection, he had found some gum on the inside of his shoes. He looked around and spotted the bully smiling to himself. James had enough at this point. He marched right over and brought the gum to the bully’s attention. “You put gum in my shoe?” The bully smiled coyly. “Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t. There’s a lot of kids in this class who like gum.” James grew tired of the games and shoved the bully, much to the shock of the other kids. The bully leapt back tackling poor James to the ground and pulling at his hair. Miss Delilah burst into action, tearing the two apart. “What is wrong with you both, sit here, you’re coming to the office with me after everyone leaves.”

As the two watched everyone leave, Miss Delilah turned to them. “This is the first day, you should both be ashamed of yourselves. James Kent, why are you involved at all? I expected more from you.” She then turned to the grinning bully and smiled to herself. “James Ronald MacDonald, you too should be ashamed of yourself. Just because you have the same name as a clown doesn’t mean you have to act like one!” The bully sank into his chair and James laughed to himself. Ronald MacDonald and he had curly red hair. James wasn’t worried about being bullied for a little bit. As they went to the office, Miss Delilah went in ahead of them to talk with the principal. The bully suddenly turned to James. “Hey… I’m really sorry for bullying you.” James rolled his eyes, he didn’t believe him for a second. But then the bully continued. “In preschool I wore a yellow shirt one day, and someone just called me Ronald MacDonald. It stuck, it was why we moved here.” He looked at the ground and scuffed his foot around the floor. “I didn’t want to be bullied, so I started the bullying.” James turned and looked the bully straight in the eye. “If you didn’t like being bullied, don’t do it to others Ronald MacDonald.”

As the principal ushered them both in, James went in and climbed into the chair. The bully soon followed suit, looking noticeably distraught. Mrs Stein looked at both boys. “What happened today is not to happen again. Do I make myself clear?” James nodded and the bully agreed as well. Mrs Stein looked at the bully for a moment. “What’s wrong James?” The bully grinned quickly to himself and looked up at Mrs Stein. “He tried to start the rumour that I was Ronald MacDonald!” James was baffled by the accusation. As he looked at the principal he realized she had been informed about the bully’s being teased in preschool. “James, I don’t know how you got that information, but it is not to be heard around here, do you understand? If you say anything at all about it, you’ll find yourself in detention for a year!” James was stunned. “But he-” Mrs Stein cut him off. “No buts young man, now go, your bus cannot wait forever!”

James walked to his bus with rage inside. He couldn’t believe the principal had literally taken away the only leverage he had against Ronald MacDonald.  With that gone, the bully literally had free reign to bully him all year round and had an easy excuse to get James in trouble. Suddenly McDonalds as a fast food chain was much less his favourite, no matter if they had happy meals or not. Although he laughed to himself when he thought about why Grimace was rarely smiling, maybe Ronald McDonald was a bully too. The Hamburgler was probably stealing a new lunch to replace the one Ronald stole from him. Before he knew it, it was his stop. The bus driver nodded as James got off the bus and his mother was already standing there. She had tears in her eyes and hugged him ever so tight. James suddenly remembered that Willow wasn’t going to be home for him when he got there. After everything that happened today, he needed her most now. Finally everything caught up with him, and the tears forced their way through no matter how much he fought them.

Unbiased Law: Episode 11

Episode Ten: When we left Magnus last time he had returned to his office after investigating the Radlem Residence. As he arrived, he found that his car was parked in the alley out back, meaning one of two things: Veronica had returned it, or she was in his office while he was in her house. After entering, he didn’t find her anywhere inside the office. She found him however, and stunned him. Magnus woke up tied to a chair with a familiar hand cannon in his face once again and began trying to talk to Veronica. Lucky for Magnus his detective skills have kept him alive longer than he expected, and long enough to uncover the truth about Veronica’s mother. (or back to Episode One or Episode Ten)

**********************************************************************

The hand cannon quivered as Veronica squeezed the trigger. I knew this outcome was a possibility, but I guess I was hopeful. Then I realized that I wasn’t dead. Veronica looked at me, and then at the gun. “It seems I’m out of bullets, fate just seems to be on your side.” I sat anxiously awaiting what would happen next. “So I get to live?” She looked at her gun with disgust. “For today.” Veronica pulled a chair up in front of me. “You really think my father would do such a thing?” I nodded in agreement, knowing I was pushing my luck here. “It’s the only way you could have been completely cured.” She leaned back on the chair, and her beauty almost made me forget what she had done to me already. Almost.

We sat staring at each other for a little while and suddenly she smiled. It was a gorgeous smile, yet it frightened the hell out of me. “Tell me about yourself Inspector Gadget.” I looked around, obviously confused by the reference. “Well, I used to be on the police force, I trained and programmed many of the droids still working there today.” I suddenly felt like I couldn’t stop the words from coming out, maybe it was her beauty, or maybe I just wanted to talk to someone. Either way, I told her everything. From me originally being human to my issues adapting to becoming a robot and beyond, just everything. As we sat there she looked me up and down. “I’m impressed Magnus. You’ve done pretty well for yourself.” She looked down at the gun in her hands. “Sorry about that, it wasn’t personal.” Suddenly I felt like things were turning around between Veronica and I. “I know you had your reasons. But I’m on the case against the judge now, hopefully I can clear him as he was…” My mind flashes back to the video of her walking past the judge. “…in desperate need of an upgrade.”

Veronica looks at me almost knowing what I was about to say. “Well I should probably go then. You live today, but know something. I’m tracking you, so now I can find you and kill you whenever I want. So if you end up near my house again, I will hunt you down.” As she stood up, she leaned over and kissed my cheek. “Maybe in another life, we could have been friends… or better.” As I watch her leave I realize I’m falling for the girl. She’s already killed me, and I’m falling for her. What a ridiculous emotion love is, why couldn’t that be something my brain just forgot about? As the door slams shut behind her, I realize she has left me tied to a chair. How to get out of this one? The knot on my hands is just below my grease valve, I could always open that. But I’d ruin the carpet. Some days I wish this place wasn’t mine at all.

After a lengthy fight with some rather frustrating knots I manage to get free and get myself off the floor and out from under the table. I’ll spare the details in saying, that was not my most graceful of moments. As I survey the damage, my desk is on it’s side, a bookshelf has been tipped over and I’ve broken pretty much anything that was glass in my main office. Not too shabby. However while I’m still looking around something catches my eye. A small pile of drained nanites lays on the floor, close to the chair where Veronica was sitting. I scoop them up and toss them into a nanite reader. As they begin to recharge the data within them shows they have been formatted to rebuild tissue. Nothing I didn’t know already. As I scan the rest of the data nothing really important jumps out at me. Only strange thing is why these nanites are here if she is completely human? Maybe she’s still not completely cured, but drained nanites only come from robots. Maybe they were from her sister?

Suddenly I get the feeling that these nanites have a much larger story to tell and so does Veronica’s organ donor sister. I call the police station and get them to re-examine the body. Something isn’t adding up. I had never heard of nanites jumping host before, but where the sisters were so connected I suppose it would be possible that some could have transferred during a surgery. Doctors are normally extremely careful in those cases, but if her father was the one administering the surgery then it is again a distinct possibility. Finally the police station picks up and I ask for the morgue. They patch me through and I realize I’m talking with a regular officer. “Hi, Magnus here. Where’s the doctor?” The droid on the other end says something I couldn’t have predicted in years. “The doctor is under investigation, Radlem’s daughter’s body has apparently up and walked away.”

Super Zero: Land of the Bullies

As the school buzzer rang for recess to begin, all the kids bolted out the door. All the kids except James Kent. As Miss Delilah managed the chaos of the flood of children washing past her, she turned her attention to James. As she walked over to him he looked up at her, his lip quivering. “Miss Delilah, can you call the other boys by their middle names? I’m a little embarrassed by mine now.” Miss Delilah took a moment to think of the other boys and what their names would be: Harry Dicks, Ronald MacDonald, Benjamin Dover and Seymour Butts. As Miss Delilah patted him on the head she smiled. “I can try calling you James K. if that’ll help at all.” James nodded in agreement. “I just felt like you wanted to make fun of my name was all.” Miss Delilah shook her head and laughed, “Actually I thought your parents did the best job naming you, so I thought I’d use your middle name.” As James leapt from his desk and toward the door, he stopped suddenly and spun around to face Miss Delilah again. “Who is superman?”

After his talk with Miss Delilah, James found himself with very little recess left. As he stepped outside the door, he began unwrapping the chocolate bar his mother had given him for lunch. Suddenly it was yanked from his hands. “Hey that’s mine!” As he turned to face the thief he realized that it was the kid from his class who called him Superman. “Give it back!” James reached for the bar while he was held at bay. Other kids pointed and laughed but no one would help him. The bully pushed James backward and watched at he tripped and fell to the ground. “What’s wrong Clark Kent? No tights, no powers?” The bully laughed and ate the chocolate bar in front of everyone. James sat on the ground staring at everyone. This definitely wasn’t the best of first days, and he was glad he had told Willow about his imaginary day at school. Finally the bully polished off the bar and tossed the wrapper at James. “You’ll always be a Super Zero loser!” As the bully and his gang walked off, James rose to his feet and dusted himself off. The buzzer finally sounded as an end to recess for the day.

The classroom was full by the time James got back, and Miss Delilah hurried him to his seat. Much to his dismay, the bully had switched seats with one of the other kids and was now directly behind him. James stared out the window and saw a girl with a tangled mess of hair, like hay, playing on the playground all alone. As he watched he felt compelled to tell Miss Delilah, but instead didn’t. After all, that girl looked way happier out there than he was in the classroom. As the teacher handed out small paint sets, James knew this wouldn’t end well. He looked at his nice brown pants, and his white shirt. All I’ve got to do is be extra careful. No spilling it. As James painted his name he found himself far more advanced than most of the other children. Some of them couldn’t write their name at all, especially his bully behind him. As James marvelled at how well he was doing, suddenly his back felt damp. As he reached back to touch it, he pulled his hand back soaked in blue paint. The bully pointed and laughed, and then tried to argue that it was an accident. The class was all laughing by this point and James could barely take it. He got up and walked into the bathroom and closed the door.

Miss Delilah sent the bully to the office and gave James the time he needed to calm down. As the bell for lunch tolled, James emerged from the bathroom and into the concerned gaze of his teacher . “James are you all right?” James sat down on the floor and sighed. He wasn’t all right. His best friend in the world wouldn’t be at home to make him feel better and he would have to spend the entire school year with this bully. “No Miss. I’d like to go home.” The look on Miss Delilah’s face showed her heart was breaking for him. “It’ll be ok. I can have him moved to another class or even move him away from you in this one if you’d like?” James nodded and looked out toward the playground. The girl with the tangled hair was gone. James knew his only chance would be to wait outside after the bell to see if she came back. “I’ll go eat my lunch Miss Delilah. Thank you.” As James left the room Miss Delilah shook her head. She knew how hard it was to go through bullying, maybe it was time to fight back.

James walked into the cafeteria and the smell of delicious foods teased him. He knew he only had a ham sandwich, but after recess he was really hungry. As he looked around for a seat, he found one at a table with a bunch of other people. As he sat down however, the table emptied. Do I look sick or something? What’s wrong with me? Suddenly a shadow loomed over him, and he just knew who it was. “I’m not giving you my sandwich, so go away.” The bully wasn’t about to ask. As he grabbed for the sandwich, James thrust half of it into his mouth. The bully wasn’t very happy about that and punched James in the face. Tears welled up in his eyes and he found himself crying before he could try and stop it. The bully stood up on the seat beside him and pointed him out yet again. “Poor little Super Zero, can’t stop crying long enough to finish his stupid sandwich.” James sat there humiliated. The sandwich tasted terrible, kind of like the taste the time he bit his lip. As the bully ran off a teacher stormed in to see what the commotion was. James dried his eyes and tried to pretend nothing was wrong. “Oh my, you’d best come with me young man.” The teacher pulled James from his seat and headed toward the Principal’s office.

As they hurried along Mrs Stein opened the door to her office, “Oh my gosh, what happened?” The teacher looked to James for an answer. “I… I bit my lip.” The teacher shook her head and the Principal waived her off. After the door closed behind the teacher, Mrs Stein looked to James again. “You didn’t bite your lip that hard. It looks like someone hit you.” James didn’t want to open that door. He knew that if he told her who it was, it could be worse next time. “It was a friend, he hit me by accident.” He looked to her to see if she bought it, which she didn’t. “Well where was this friend of yours when the teacher found you crying?” James winced as Mrs Stein dabbed a cloth on his lip. “He didn’t mean to and he knew he was in trouble. So he ran.” Mrs Stein still wasn’t buying it, but she didn’t want to press it further. “James, you know you can come and talk to me any time and about anything, right?” James nodded. Suddenly the bell rang ending lunch and Mrs Stein stood up, helping James out of the chair he was sitting in. “I’ll take you back to your class.” James looked around frantically, he wanted to meet the girl at the playground!

Unbiased Law: Episode 10

Episode Nine: After his narrow escape from a shotgun trap, Magnus finds himself outed as he watches his stolen vehicle drive away from the scene. After a lengthy statement to the police, he is allowed entry into the home to begin his own investigation. Magnus had trouble finding any pictures with two girls, however one hidden under a chair held more answers than he could have ever hoped for. Veronica was the girl, and her twin, had a robot serial number. Could she have been a cyborg? Episode Ten awaits! (or back to Episode One or Episode Nine)

**********************************************************************

Veronica, Age 12, R0N-N13, Upgrade 12.

That line stuck in my head like it had been etched in. A girl and a robot? Was the Veronica I dealt with a robot? So many unanswered questions. As I rode the cab from the Radlem residence I couldn’t help but think. I remembered using a wireless transmitter to get used to connecting to networks before I became a robot. They wanted me to get used to it, especially as my body declined. I began to consider that perhaps Veronica had undergone the same treatment I had. But she looked so real! As the cab pulled up in front of my office, I could see the tail lights of my car sticking out from the back alley. Had she come to find me? Only time would tell. I needed to make a backup so I logged in to my computer remotely. Although my computer wouldn’t be very secure considering she’d be there too. I made it look like I was fumbling for my money as if I was drunk and logged into my old server still up and running at the police station. The upload didn’t take half as long as I thought and I paid the cabbie. As I stared at the front door to my office, even as a robot I got chills up and down my imaginary spine.

I walked calmly up to the door and drew my gun, I glanced in through the window to see that the back office light was on. Maybe while I was rooting around in her house, she decided to come to mine. I eased my way into the front door, closing it softly behind me. Even I was impressed at the amount of stealth I was performing. As I got to the back office door, I stopped for only a moment. I could hear my pulse racing, despite not having one. I guess the brain fills in the gaps. Spinning around I aim the gun directly into the room and find no one there. Hmm, that’s strange. Why was my car-

“Hello sleepy head. Sleep Mode is over.” As I focus on the person before me only one word comes to mind. Shit. I stare death in the face once again as Veronica sits in front of me, face to face. “You’re not like the others. The robot police officers are morons, but not you. You’re crafty, smart, and very inconvenient.” She points a familiar hand cannon in my face and I feel my every circuit tingle. “Look Veronica, I just got this face, so I’d like to keep it.” She stares me in the eyes. “I can see you got some upgrades, probably to avoid being seen by me. Whoops, not so good on that front. I was beginning to wonder what human was following me.” I find her speech interesting, what human was following her? I must be talking to R0N-N13. “Look, I understand you’ve been through some strange times being a robot and all.” Her reaction isn’t quite what I had expected. “A robot?” She leans over and kisses my cheek. “I’m no robot, I’m one hundred percent human. But I assume you met my sister.” I stared at her and switched to my heat sensors. I always forget I have other damn lenses, so useless sometimes. Her body heat registers just as a human’s and she has no cybernetic implants.

“Hmm, interesting. But I had found a picture marked Veronica and R0N-N13, how do you explain the serial number?” I watch for her reaction and she plays it cool. “She was my organ donor. My father had taken an interest in nanite robotics when he was very young. After he realized his only daughter would succumb to some disease I don’t even remember, he built a robot and gave me the ability to back up my mind to her. We were then raised as sisters and he used nanite technologies to give her tissue to replicate my own.” I sat deep in thought and suddenly it made sense as to why I never saw her mother in any pictures. “Veronica, did your father ever tell you what happened to your mother?” Veronica gave me a sharp look and pressed the hand cannon against my forehead. “That bitch left shortly after I was born. She didn’t want to give me up for adoption but she didn’t want to support me like my father did.” If I could, I’d have swallowed hard as my next words would be either my demise or I could gain an ally.

“Veronica. To repair your tissue and make organs to match, they couldn’t have used your already diseased tissues. They’d have needed fresh ones. I believe your mother never left you at all, but she supported you with her life, perhaps even against her will.” Veronica looked me straight in the eye and I could see the fires of rage fuelled by my words. As she began to squeeze the trigger, I grew thankful I had a backup somewhere out there.

Super Zero: The Start of Something New

Today begins a new chapter as I begin writing my second episodic content story on the site. After taking a vote, it appears as though some wished to see me write about a child starting school and the years that ensued. Today, you will meet James Clark Kent and he will begin his first year of school at Ridgefield Elementary.

***

A runt of a boy runs in a panic across a field of dandelions. “Mom! Mom! Mom!” The boy shouts at the top of his lungs but to no avail. As he runs up the front porch steps, they creak and groan with every step. “Mom! Mom!” “Dear God child, what is it?” His mother stands tall and obviously unimpressed by his incessant yelling. “Well, spit it out James!” James looks up at his Mother, tears sliding down his freckled cheeks from his chestnut coloured eyes. “It’s Willow…”

As the two rush out, James leads the way, tugging at his mother’s arm the whole way. As they approach, he points to their fourteen year old golden retriever. The dog lays motionless beneath the large weeping willow where they originally found her. James hugs his mother’s leg as the two approach Willow. “She’s really tired today James.” She glances only briefly at James with a tear in her eye. “Go get your father, but please don’t run there screaming. He’s had a long day.”

As James rushes back to his home, he races up the stairs to his mother and father’s room. As he peeks in, he notices his father is upright in bed reading a book. Glancing up from his book, his father focuses through his glasses. “James? Is everything all right?” James quietly shakes his head and tears begin sliding down his cheeks. “Willow’s really tired today.” His father’s eyes widen and he leaps into action. He rests the book gently on the bedside table along with his glasses. “Run along to your room now son. I’ll go check her out.” As his father leaves James already knows the outcome. He won’t see Willow again. Just like he didn’t see Grandpa any more.

The next day James woke up and was surprised to find Willow waiting for him on the front porch. As he played with her ears he felt like she stuck around long enough to see him start school. “Thanks Willow, you’ve been the best friend I could have ever asked for. I hope the kids at school are as great as you.” Willow nuzzled her head into his lap and looked up at him. James smiled at her, but he knew she probably wouldn’t get to hear about his first day at school. Then he had a wonderful idea! He leapt up, startling the poor dog and ran inside. Willow laid her head back down once he disappeared from sight, and then looked back up when he stumbled into view. He was wearing his backpack and new school jacket. “Bye Willow! I’m going to school now!” As he ran down the steps and across the yard the dog stared at him with her head cocked to the side.

After about an hour James ran back across the yard and up to Willow. “Willow! Willow school is great! I have so many friends already and my teacher is really nice. I can totally understand why you went to school when you were a puppy. They taught me to roll over too!” As he ditched his backpack into the dirt, he laid beside Willow and rolled away from her. To his surprise she rolled with him, together they rolled back and forth until finally his mother called him in for supper. He hugged Willow as tight as he could and kissed her on the head. “I love you Willow, I’ll… I’ll see you tomorrow.” As he ran into the house Willow rolled over one last time and snuggled into her stuffed bear on the deck.

“James Clark Kent! Get out of bed this instant!” James jumped to his mother’s voice faster than he ever would for his alarm. “I’m up… I don’t feel well…” His mother laughed. “You’re not getting out of school that easy, now come on, we don’t want you to be late!” As the two walked down the front walkway James turned and waved to Willow and his father. Willow barked in response and his father waved back. As they arrived at the bus stop James looked to his mother. “Mom, I really don’t feel well.” She glanced down at him and then down the road. “It’s just nerves dear, you’ll be fine.” As she looked back to James, she saw he was as white as a ghost. “It’ll be fine my dear boy, you’ll meet lots of great people and-” James interrupted his mother’s pep talk by throwing up on the ground. “I know Mom, I know.” As the bus pulled up James looked back to his mother in hopes he could just go home. She quietly loaded him onto the bus and waved her goodbyes. This was it, James was alone on a bus full of strangers.

As James made his way down the bus aisle, some people moved their bags to take up their seats, while others simply shook their head no. Finally James returned to the front of the bus and sat right behind the bus driver. This was not the good start he had hoped for. The bus picked up some more kids on the way to school, yet all of them bypassed James. He sat alone the entire ride to school and waited until all the other kids got off the bus to leave. The bus driver stopped him on his way out. “The first day is always the hardest son.” James looked at him confused. “You’re not my Dad…” The bus driver laughed, “No, I most certainly am not. What’s your name boy?” James scrunched up his nose. “I’m not supposed to talk to strangers sir. Thank you for driving me to school.” As James ran off the bus driver laughed to himself. “Silly kid, I won’t be a stranger when I’ve driven you to school for the next few years!”

James head spun as the shrill call of the school bell sounded. He had to remember that he was in Miss Delilah’s class, so as he walked the halls he kept repeating it to himself. “Miss Delilah, Miss Delilah, Miss Delilah…” Suddenly a lovely lady in a suit walked up to him, and looked him right in the eye. “Where are you headed young man?” James looked around in a panic. “Am I in trouble already?” The lady laughed, “Not at all, I’m the principal here, Mrs Stein. I’m just trying to help as many students as I can find their classrooms, so where were you headed?” James looked her up and down and the put out his hand. “I’m James Kent, it’s nice to meet you Mrs Stein.” He stopped for a moment. “I don’t remember who my teacher is…” Mrs Stein smiled and took his hand. “Well Mister Kent, follow me and we will find your class.”

As they walked down the halls for what seemed like eternity, James looked up at the lovely Mrs Stein. She seems really nice, He thought, maybe today won’t be so bad. As they entered classroom after classroom, James was just about to give up when they were passing a door marked “Miss Delilah”. James tugged at Mrs Stein’s hand. “That’s her! That’s my teacher!” As James walked in they had just begun doing roll call. Mrs Stein bent to wish young James well and headed off. Only one desk was left, and it was right in front of the teacher and closest to the window. James made his long walk from the door to the desk and took off his backpack. As he sat down he heard the teacher call his name. “James Kent?” He looked up and held up his hand. “Here!” Miss Delilah smiled. “James you’re the second James on my list which has five James total, would you mind if I called you by your middle name?” James smiled politely. “You can Miss.” She smiled back. “Clark Kent. Here.” Suddenly one rather big student at the back jumped up and yelled, “Superman?!” James turned to look at the boy, he didn’t understand the reference. “The kid’s no superhero, more like a… super zero!” As all the kids laughed James turned to face the front. This was about to be the longest day in all of his five years total.

Unbiased Law: Episode 9

Episode Eight: After Magnus watched Miss Del Mar/Radlem for several hours he needed to get home and recharge. After a brief “ghost in the machine” moment, he remembers that Ms. Del Mar said the words For my father shortly before she shot him in a few days back. This proves the link between Miss Del Mar and Mister Radlem in prison along with photos in the Radlem’s residence, however Miss Radlem was already in the morgue. After a brief visit with Mister Radlem in prison, he somehow disables Magnus’ hearing and is pulled away stating that his girls will get him out. As Magnus required repairs, he headed the doctor at the police station, and paid the morgue a visit. Miss Del Mar was definitely laying on the table, but who was at the house? Also, why did this corpse have a wireless transmitter in her skull? Onward, to Episode Nine! (or back to Episode One or Episode Eight)

**********************************************************************

I hurried from the police station and flagged down the first cab I saw. A girl with a wireless transmitter, a girl looking exactly like her; one dead on a slab, one sitting in the house of her father. As these thoughts raced through my head I began to see a small war echoing the problems of a much larger one looming. Mister Radlem said his girls would get him out of prison. Girls. Why didn’t I think about that before? They must be twins! As we pulled up in front of the Radlem residence I leapt from the car tossing probably more money at the cabbie than I should have. Gun drawn, I advanced up the steps to the front door and rang the doorbell. “Miss Radlem, are you home today?” I leaned forward and tried the knob. Locked. Of course what kind of robot detective would I be if I didn’t have some nifty tools tucked inside this metallic shell? As I felt excitement rising, it was an odd sensation. To be a robot, and to feel emotion… that would mess with someone’s mind. As I readied the lockpick I heard a click on the other side of the door. I stood to the side of the door and waited a moment. Nothing. I felt the door and it seemed slightly ajar. Without bursting in, I pushed the door ever so slightly, gun ready for action.

As the door creaked slowly open, I felt the urge to dive in guns blazing. But I resisted the urge and thank the gods I did. An explosion rocked the door straight out and down the stairs. Wooden shrapnel bounced off my metallic shell as I dove away from the blast, landing hard on the wooden deck. As I turned I half expected to see Miss Radlem standing there with a shotgun. No one was there. I rose up and peered into the house and noticed a shotgun mounted to a table. It seemed as though I almost fell for the old shotgun trap on the door trick. Sadly, my suit mostly had. I called the police and also asked if they could bring me a pair of pants and a shirt. No use standing around with my nuts and bolts hanging out with a human face. As I made the call I watched my car peel off and turn down a side street. Goddamnit, she had seen what happened. Well, now that the cat was out of the bag I wasn’t feeling too safe. Lucky for me the police arrived in minutes and began surveying the scene.

After a gruelling hour long discussion about why I was at the Radlem’s house, and how a robot wandering around his house looked, I found myself standing with some of the investigator droids. It was always awkward standing with robots. They always knew somehow I wasn’t one of them, and people always judge you by how you look anyway so I get classified as a robot. A very poor middle ground if you ask me. One of the droids ushered me into the house to have a look around. He was aware I was on the case involving the Judge and Radlem and thought maybe I could spot something he may have missed. I thanked the nice robot and began my own investigation.

As I looked through drawers I found photos of Mister Radlem and only one of his daughters. In fact, every picture only had one. But he did say girls, I know it. As I sat down on the couch something shiny beneath a nearby chair caught my eye. As I stooped to pick it up, I found a bunch of broken glass and a ripped photo. Something strange was going on, as in this one photo, there were two identical girls. Perhaps she was the lesser of identical twins? Another thought also entered my mind. Where was their mother? In all these pictures she never once made an appearance. I flipped the picture over and suddenly everything made sense. In a single line, I began to understand what was going on with the Radlem’s a whole lot more.

**********************************************************************
A fireman rushes into a house to save a boy trapped in his room. This fireman has tempted fate so many times, but he never leaves anyone in the house. Gabriel Cairns has always been a man of action and heroism. As he rushes though the flames, he doesn’t feel the heat, doesn’t hear the wood charring all around him. All he can hear are the screams of a scared little boy. He rushes up the stairs, as if ascending from hell itself, and bursts onto the second floor. The wood creaks and groans around him, but he finds the boy’s voice. He kicks in the door and see’s the boy huddled in a corner, beneath his blanket. “It’s alright, everything will be fine.” As he picks the boy up, he hears the stairs collapse from where he had just been. “Guys, I need a team to pick this kid up on the right side, over.” “We’re already there.” As Gabriel opens the window, he looks down to see the kid’s parents and his team. He turns to look at the child. “You ready kiddo?” The boy nods and Gabriel wraps the blanket around the boy. “I’m going to lower you down to them, so you hold onto this blanket for dear life, ok?” The boy nods as Gabriel ties it below his arms, just in case. As he lowers the boy, the house groans in agony as if to urge him to hurry. Finally the boy rests safely in the arms of his parents and Gabriel takes a moment to relax. The house gives up the fight in that instant and collapses inward on itself.
When Gabriel opens his eyes, he assumes he’s at the hospital. The all white room feels extremely sterile, the light above him shines directly into his eyes. As he sits up, brushing the light to the side, he realises that this is no ordinary room. A small tabby kitten looks up at him from the floor. As Gabriel drops from the bed to pick it up, the kitten bolts to the door and looks back at him playfully. Gabriel is unnerved by the whole situation, but feels compelled to follow the little tabby out of the room. As he walks toward the door, the hallway seems to grow ever so bright, almost unbearable.
“Hello Gabriel Cairns, I’ve been waiting to meet you.” When his eyes finally adjust, Gabriel is standing in what looks like an extremely sterile white office. With only two chairs and a small table in the room, Gabriel’s gaze is drawn to the sharply dressed man in the suit and tie in the chair beyond the table. “Who are…” Gabriel changes his mind, mid thought. “Am I dead?” The man at the table fixes his tie and raises his hand to the chair across from him. “Please Gabriel, have a seat.” Gabriel looks around confused and startled. Am I really dead? Suddenly a voice answers his thought, the voice of the man at the table. Sadly yes Gabriel, now please, take a seat. We have much to discuss.
Gabriel eventually calms down enough to sit in the chair and stares across at the man in the suit. “Did you just read my mind?” Snickering, the man shakes his head. “I could have if need be, however I read your body language. I know you better than anyone, even your own wife.” Gabriel slouches in despair. My wife… The man realizes what he just did and lowers his head. “I’m sorry, my apologies.” After a brief moment of silence, the man begins again. “You’re probably wondering where you are, and who I am correct?” Gabriel stares at him blankly. “I’m dead, this is heaven, and you’re god.” The man looks shocked and looks himself up and down. “I am hardly a god, let alone the God. This is not heaven either I’m afraid. In fact, there is no God.” Gabriel looks up at him. “Then where are we?” The man smiles. “Now I’ve piqued your curiosity.”
The man straightens up in his chair and fixes his tie once again. “Gabriel Evan Cairns, I am your creator, Edward. I have been watching over you since you were an instant of passion between your parents.” He extends his hand  for Gabriel. “It is an honour to finally meet you.” Gabriel straightens up in his chair and stares at Edward’s hand. “Why couldn’t you have saved me?” Edward frowns a bit and nods. “I understand your frustration, but every creator gets but a few chances to aid the people they watch over. I used yours early on.” Gabriel looks him in the eye. “Early on? Like when I was younger?” Edward perks up. “Precisely! Remember when you saved Emily’s puppy from that car?” Gabriel thought back and thought back hard. “I was five, and I rushed into traffic to save the poor thing. He was chasing a plastic bag.” Edward nods. “The driver wasn’t paying attention, and I was able to snap him back to reality and he swerved, narrowly avoiding you.”
Gabriel was impressed, however he was still dead. Nothing could bring him back. “How many times can you intervene?” Edward looked down at the table. “To avoid death, only once. To avoid injury about ten times.” Gabriel smiled. “Well that explains why I’ve been slowly becoming less and less invincible over time and much more prone to accidents.” Edward nodded and fixed his tie. “Would you mind if I remove my tie? I’m not used to wearing one.” Gabriel nodded in approval. After removing his tie, Edward felt more casual already. “Gabriel, you must have some questions for me first before we discuss where we are. So feel free to ask away.” Gabriel thought long and hard, suddenly a great one came to him.
“Why are you called a creator?” Gabriel leaned in, much more interested now that he was resigning to his fate. Edward grinned and leaned forward. “I am called a creator, but back in the mortal world, we’re called Guardian Angels. Some of us care more than others. We are supposed to watch over and protect the beings who are brought into the world. We shape who you are and that thing you call a conscience is actually a creator’s nudge, if you’ve got a good one. Gut feelings? Those are our department as well.” Edward paused to ensure Gabriel was still paying attention and to his delight Gabriel returned with a question. “What if you were a bad creator?” Edward sighed. “Bad creators put their people on auto pilot and it’s amazing how long some people can survive without guidance.” Gabriel shook his head in confusion. “Auto pilot?”
Edward smiled politely and played with his tie on the table in front of him. “Some creators, most creators actually, want people to succeed and eventually get here to meet them face to face. It is without a doubt the greatest day of my secondary existence here and I still have a young lady who will meet me down the road.” Still fidgeting with his tie, he continued on. “Like most jobs, some people don’t want to pull their weight or just do the bare minimum to get by. These creators have a few options available to them. They can place them on a predetermined path, such as guiding them to an already established religion or allowing them to be push overs and adapting to those around them.” Gabriel leaned in. “Then what of me? What have I become? I believed in God, I thought that’s why I was here, I thought this was heaven!” As Gabriel’s rage grew, Edward stood and looked at him. “You believed in a god. You thought I was god. You’re not entirely wrong, and this is your heaven.” Gabriel sat back stunned by the news.
Edward gave Gabriel a few moments to gather his thoughts and started again. “I pointed you toward religion. Religion has an incredible sense of belonging and an amazing set of basic morals and values you needed through life. You always put others before yourself, even playful puppies chasing plastic bags.” As they shared a quick laugh, Edward got to his point. “Religion isn’t about God, it’s about the belief in the moral code and values that is sustained. You never once believed someone created the world, you were far too involved in the sciences through school to have allowed yourself to consider that. But you believed in the higher power, something to believe in and something to give yourself strength and faith as time went on.” Gabriel smiled and leaned back in, his interest returning over his anger. “But how is that any different from being on auto pilot?” Edward nodded. “Good question, those on auto pilot go through the motions, but as they’re never checked up on, some lead horrific lives which could have been avoided.”
Edward paused for a few moments, trying to consider a bad auto pilot example. “I can’t think of any of the top of my head, but not all auto pilot people turn out bad. This is because there are about eighty five percent more good creators than lazy ones. When someone is a good influence on another, they have been indirectly helped by a creator.” Gabriel seemed deep in thought, but still attentive, so Edward continued. “Remember that apartment fire you were first on the scene for? That poor girl who was trapped in the burning room?” Gabriel looked up. He definitely remembered her. The poor girl was only about thirteen years old and she looked terrified. Edward leaned his head to the side, cracking his neck. “That girl was seriously headed down the wrong path. She had no influences around her and unfortunately her parents were both watched by lazy creators. Did they ever find out what started that fire Gabriel?” He thought hard, but Gabriel didn’t think that they had. “They never did, and if they had, that girl would have been in a ward somewhere. She had microwaved her neighbour’s cat, and the poor thing burst into flames. The girl knew what she had done was wrong and did not want to call for help. Lucky for her, you saved her and the microwave and most of the kitchen burned to nothing.”
Gabriel looked at Edward and dropped his head in shame. “Great I saved a cat killer. Next you’ll tell me I saved a rapist.” Edward half laughed and then realized it was an inappropriate time. “No no, you haven’t heard the point. You influenced her. Your selfless act of rushing in with no gear on, just a soaking wet comforter, really left an impression on her. She is now a part of the fire brigade in another city where her and her husband have two incredibly well behaved and well watched over children.” Gabriel smiled and straightened up. “I did that?” Edward nodded. “The good creators can only affect those less fortunate through those we watch over. When you had your bad feeling that it wasn’t just a small kitchen fire, I was urging you to help. Even knowing what I knew about that girl.” Gabriel nodded. “That’s fair.”
Gabriel stood up and stretched. “So if this isn’t heaven, where are we?” Edward looked at him and nodded. “Yes, I think you’re ready.” The wall behind him melted away and revealed a beautiful world seemingly just like his own. “This is it?” Edward laughed at Gabriel’s reaction and patted him on the shoulder. “This is where everyone who is not evil is, in a sense it’s heaven and also limbo. You see those who don’t believe in a god will get here too, so long as they still obey the laws and rules and basic courtesies.” As they stared out at the world Edward looked to Gabriel with a very approving smile. “The exceptionally good, they become creators, sometimes they don’t work out but for the most part they do. That is what I’m offering you. You have been remarkable in your presence in the world, and you have done so much good for others that so long as you remain an amazing creator, you will be allowed to stay here. No bills, no worries, just good times. Creators work on two lives at a time and then we are given two lives off.” Gabriel turned to him. “You mean like you are responsible for me and the other girl you mentioned and then are paired with another two that someone else governs?” Edward nodded. “Exactly.”
As they walked among the others in the world Gabriel was stunned by the beauty of it all. “So what about the people who aren’t creators?” Edward stared straight forward, smiling at people as they passed. “They get a single lifetime here, one hundred years of whenever they were happiest in their lives. Then after their time is up, they are placed back down upon the earth for another lifetime there. The end goal is for everyone to become a creator.” Gabriel looked away from Edward and nodded in approval of the answer he received. “And those who are evil?” Edward continued staring ahead. “Those who do not make it here, are watched over for a thousand years of torment among their peers. Only the creators who have been here for many millennia take turns watching over them. After their time there, they are also placed back into the world for their second chance.”
Gabriel stopped and stared at a huge statue of a being with no determinable features. Edward leaned in. “If there must be a god, that would be it. Although they were the only one, they had been a birth defect of a pair of gorillas. Left to their own devices the beings that watched over the gorillas much like we watch over you, refused to take responsibility for it. Then, the being found it could reproduce and had two children. One with male organs, and one with female organs. Essentially, Adam and Eve, except not as kind a telling as the churches make it out to be. The parent of both of them watched them, raised them into adulthood and died of disease. As time went on that being watched over it’s family until finally its family joined them here. Ever since then those people watched their ancestors and helped create this place to match the times for the newcomers.”
Edward turned to Gabriel and took his hands. “Gabriel, will you take up the watch and guide others as you have been guided as a creator?” Gabriel smiled and nodded. “I’d be honoured. I spent my entire life saving others, might as well spend my time here doing it too.” Edward nodded. “Then it shall be so. You will be trained by me and you will help me with the people I watch over. After I leave, you will enter the cycle.” Gabriel nodded, but then appeared rather sad. Edward noticed, and brought him to another office. “Gabriel, this is where we can see our loved ones. We cannot speak with them or guide them as a creator, however it allows us to keep those bonds until they arrive here with us.” Gabriel turned to Edward who had extended his hand for a hand shake. Gabriel shook his head. “If you knew me at all, you’d know I was more of a hug kind of guy.” As Edward hugged Gabriel he felt himself even more at peace. He had finally achieved his own redemption.

**********************************************************************

As I peered into the window of the house I noticed Ms. Del Mar, rather Ms. Radlem, was sitting exceptionally still in the main room. I watched her for a few hours before my energy reserves showed they were getting low. I made my retreat to a nearby street and called a cab. I needed to get to my office and fast. As the cab driver blathered on about something no human or robot would care about, I felt compelled to just grab my gun and rush back. No energy meant the possibility of a shut down while attempting to apprehend the suspect, which never ever went over well. I can still remember the first time it happened.

As police officers we didn’t always have dependable backup. Some police were on the payroll of the guys we were trying to apprehend and sometimes they just didn’t feel the need to call in. That was one of many reasons we began employing droids against crime. As I trained and programmed a fair number of droids, I felt that we should take them for a test run one day against a rather large organized crime bust. As we pulled up, I remember we needed to have them surrounded so I sent the droids to surround the place. As we made our move the droids dropped into position, however one robot collapsed to the ground as dead weight. As the criminals and the police both paused for a moment to survey the situation, suddenly one of the other droids dropped his gun and his arms swung to it’s sides. The criminals watched as the droids dropped one by one, all because I had forgotten they needed charging every night. Then a shootout began, which cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of droids and two police officers. It was a tough lesson to learn but I immediately programmed into every droid to calculate out how far away they were to their normal charging station and warn them when they were getting low.

The cabbie pulled up to the alley behind my office and I transferred him credit without thinking. I ran into the office and rushed to my charge station, barely making it with five percent to spare. I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to needing to recharge, I miss recharging using food most of all. As I lay in my bed, I stared at the ceiling with thoughts of the days events racing through my head. In the morning I would need to go to the morgue and check out the body of Ms. Radlem. If it indeed proved to be her, then I would need to figure out who this other blond lady would be. Suddenly I have a ghost in the machine moment. These moments are memories that are not on file, but a retelling of a moment in a very brief  manner. Almost like emptying out the cache, but not quite. My mind takes me back to sitting in my car with Ms. Del Mar. She mouths something but no audio to go with it. As I try and read her lips, I can make out a few words. For my Father… As suddenly as the moment began it stops and I’m brought back to the world. If that was a true ghost in the machine moment, then she said that to me right before she shot me. But that would mean that she is the daughter of Radlem in prison… but that girl is dead. So many unanswered questions, so little time. As sleep takes me I wonder what tomorrow will bring.

The charge goes quick and when I wake up I realize my nanite face has gone into standby mode. Nothing like having a head like a brick of lead in the morning. As my gears sputter and cough to get my head off the pillow, the nanites kick back in. I look at myself in the mirror. A man in a robot suit wearing a man’s face. Jesus, I feel like those Dutch nesting babushka dolls; a thing, inside a thing, inside another thing. As I get my things together before leaving, I grab my gun. I’m not going to forget that again. I grab my wallet and some cash from my desk. Hopefully I can get some answers today.

As I return to the bullet proof class cage for Radlem, he appears looking a bit grim and shaken. I fear he may have heard about the death of his daughter. “Is everything alright Mister Radlem?” He looks up at me and stares me direct in the eye. “There are probably robots in this very room.” I remember saying that to him the last time we met. He leans in and presses his forehead on the glass. “In fact how do I know you’re not a robot?” He looks so menacing I believe he could kill, at this point just with a glance. “You can’t ever be sure-” He cuts me off. “Yes I can.” From his jump suit he produces what looks like a spoon, however when he hits it on the table I realize what it is. A high pitched frequency, designed solely to deafen and destroy robot audio receivers. As I hear the rather loud hissing and cut off of my audio I watch as Mister Radlem begins speaking again. As I watch his lips I see him mouth the words, My girls will get me out of here, you can count on that.

As I leave the room, I realize immediately how much I relied on my hearing. I decide to head to the morgue and subsequently the doctor to see if he can fix these audio receivers. The cab ride over is actually pretty relaxing as I cannot hear a thing the cabbie says. I feel like people who ride in cabs are supposed to be the acting shrinks for these human drivers. As we pull up I just finish writing a note to the doctor explaining the situation. When I find him, he’s bent over a table examining the remains of a robot. He sees me and starts to speak when I hand him the note. He smiles and turns me around. In moments my hearing is back on, but everything seems so loud. “Well thanks for bailing me out again Doc.” The Doctor looks at me. “You pay taxes nowadays, don’t thank me.”

I ask him about Radlem’s daughter and he takes me over to her. She is just as beautiful as the woman who shot me, but definitely not as alive. “I swear this is the woman that shot me, but I saw her identical twin at the old Radlem house.” The doctor doesn’t seem all that surprised. “This girl got here with nanites in her body. It seems as though a lot of her was rebuilt too, just like you.” I stare down at the girl laying on the cold table. Beautiful and we had something in common, of course she had to die. The doctor continues on, “But something wasn’t right, I found a wireless transmitter in her skull, connected to her brain. I don’t know what a human would or could use it for, but it was there nonetheless.” I stared blankly, seemingly straight through the table. I know what she could use it for.

That’s it for today’s episode, I hope everyone enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoy writing it! Also, I was wondering what everyone has been thinking of the episodic content and if they think I should continue on with more stories perhaps once either of my two features here end! let me know in the comments or email me! Thanks!

Episodic Content

If you’ve been following my blog for a little while now, you will already have seen the episodic content for Unbiased Law. If you haven’t seen it, be sure to check it out (Start Here) as it is seven episodes in and doing quite well for me! I have been enjoying writing that story more and more every day as every thousand words has a cliffhanger. Also the way I write episodic content is to have an idea or direction I want the story to head in, but as I reread the last post I find myself bringing it in another direction. It might be the same path, but instead it has taken a few detours.

So my next proposal will be to those of you out there who have been reading. I already have a robot detective drama set in the future written down, so I’m going to toss out this next idea to you. Not only that, but I want to encourage more interaction with my blog, so the next story will be a choose your own adventure. As I will offer up some solutions to the problems on every page, you out there beyond the screen will get to vote on where the story should go next. Depending on how the voting goes I will write the next page accordingly and you should be able to see the results of your voting. I will also post the final tallies at the beginning of each page.

I have tossed out ten ideas I would love to write about. Most of the ideas are in fantasy settings but hey, you get to choose the story and I get to choose where and when I’m writing it! I’ll give you a tiny bit about each one and then you get to vote in the poll below! Good luck to your favourite ideas!

As a murderer manages to escape his cell and stalk the shadows, can the scientist figure out who is the murderer before it’s too late? Or will he fall victim to the supposed madness that has had him locked away?

#6) For any child growing up can be tough, but for some kids it can be much harder. As a timid child undergoes many life changing events, will he manage to come out ahead or will he end up another story on the front page and the news?

#7) As two kingdoms head to war, the warlords of both kingdoms meet each other in battle. Finding themselves quite equally matched, and stunning all around them with their display of skill. The battle for the day is called off and both sides retreat and regroup. As the female warlord goes on a long walk to review her perfect foe from the day’s battle, she stumbles upon him swimming in a lake. As the two discuss their battle they begin to fall head over heels for each other, but the battle rages on again for another day. As they take to the field of battle again, will they fight to the death or will the war take it’s toll on one or the other?

#8) One city remains of a once great population of magicians. Magic flows in their blood, but they cannot physically have more than one child. As tensions grow between the human kingdoms and the last great kingdom of magic, one magician will make a fatal error starting chaos and potentially bringing the world of men to force the extinction of magic.

#9) Unlike the Avengers, the X-Men or even the Justice League; The United Nations League of Heroes is a group of extraordinary men and women devoted to keeping world peace. Despite the fact they do have some super powers you may read about in comic books, they are still only human. As they fight to keep the peace as a group, they never consider death as an option until one of the group dies tragically at the hands of a villain. As the heroes try and cope with their loss, they are found bickering among themselves and some even break away from the group; some into vigilantism. While heroes are being requested to bring in other heroes, who is watching the villains?

#10) Speaking of villains, who doesn’t love a good bad guy? As a villain begins his career as a self proclaimed “Modern Day Robin Hood”, he finds himself lured into the luscious life of a super villain as his crimes escalate and his mind twists dramatically. Fumbling with sanity and going mad with power, our villain does everything right and manages to have the world right in the palm of his hand. All he needs to do is reach out and crush it! Who will stop him?
