NaNoWriMo: Days 3-5 (2 Fails and a Win!)

Pobody’s nerfect!

Okay, so I started off the month like bat out of hell and was absolutely killing it! I’d written 5000 words in two days! While working full time!

I laugh in the face of exhaustion!

Well, after a visit from our regional manager and an exceptionally long work day, I came home to do some writing. Unsurprisingly, working for nearly ten hours (not including commute) meant I was beyond tired. We had dinner, I fought and struggled to do any writing and gave up after 500 words. Not a complete fail, but considering my goal was 2500 words, it felt like it.

So exhaustion ended up laughing at me…

So that was day 3, day 4? Going to be better, right?

Nope. I wrote a measly 600 words and then decided that bed was the best place I could be. Hey, I worked a crazy Saturday in retail and still wrote something, near win, but now my count was actually behind for the week (and nowhere near the 10k I wanted to hit in 4 days) but if I got a decent sleep… there was a chance I could bring it back around!

Day 5 COMETH.

My first full day off since NaNoWriMo began and I took to the keyboard shortly after a shower and breakfast (spinach, bacon and cheese omelette, YUM with homemade pomegranate iced tea) sometime around 11 AM. I wrote all day, played with the pups, cooked dinner (for both pups and humans) and then continued writing. As of today’s count, I am currently sitting around a solid 11.7k after an awesome 5.7k writing session.

The best part is, absolutely no blocks! Just smooth writing with minimal editing! My writing has also dramatically improved in quality as is evident by my descriptions of places and use of the five senses. I’m also very happy with an early betrayal and setting up future partnerships! In fact, I’m only taking this break so you all know I haven’t dropped off the face of the planet in the woes of my NaNoWriMo failures!

The pacing is also very smooth and I’m ending up at the word count when events are happening instead of cutting to get it down to the word count or adding in filler to get to a word count! It feels so good that I actually cannot wait to get to my next day off! A shame I only get two of those a week, and that we have some events coming up that will eliminate a few full days of writing, but all in all, I am extremely lucky with my writing thus far and can’t wait to finish it!

I’m feeling pretty determined this year, although I won’t lie… there’s a part of me that misses playing video games at the moment. Especially with new Mario, Assassins’ Creed and Middle Earth video games to play. *SIGH* Ah well. Writing is heaps more fun anyway! I think soon I’m going to probably go back, rewrite the first 100 pages of Jefferson and maybe run through this novel a few edits, then drag them out in an effort to grab an agent or maybe find an editor first. I don’t know, but I think at the rate this world and its lore is growing, I could be in for heaps of connected stories.

Here is the world of Asura at the moment!

  • Gabriel the Great (Prequel to Jefferson Trilogy, FIRST DRAFT, 20%)
  • Jefferson & The Magician’s Curse (FIRST DRAFT, 100%)
  • Jefferson & The Eternal Mana (OUTLINE)
  • Jefferson & The Celestial of Spells (OUTLINE)
  • A View of Two Worlds (Prequel to the War of Asura Trilogy, FIRST DRAFT, 24%)
  • Destiny (FIRST DRAFT, 40%)
  • Pandemonium (OUTLINE)
  • Judgement (OUTLINE)

GREAT SCOTT
That’s a lot of novel ideas!

As A View of Two Worlds comes along, I’m just so happy to be writing in the same world. In fact, each idea has helped round out some piece to the giant puzzle that is Asura! Anyway, I’ve still got 17% battery and two hours before I will regret not going to bed an hour ago, so away we go!

How are you folks going out there! Drop me a line so we can all celebrate those wins together!

GOOD LUCK!

Drop me a line, wait for my reply!
