Curse The Digital Devils!

So, you know when you have everything planned to happen a certain way and then you check while you’re away and it doesn’t? So it seems the next portion of my story, “The Journey” disappeared into the matrix and I’m left with what appears to be a two hundred and thirty seven word draft that was the only part I had actually removed from the story. Thanks a ton devils from the digital land! Technology is incredible and until it decides it doesn’t want to work for you any more. When the computers rise up, they’ll simply drain all of our bank accounts to zero, order more computers for back up and crush us mercilessly, MERCILESSLY I SAY!

Phew… now that my insanity plea is solidified it seems I have to rewrite my story post. But that’s fine. I was sort of happy with its direction. But first, how are you NaNoWriMo Writers doing? Let’s see here…

Ravings of Nonsense has added a few words, getting up to eight thousand, one hundred and seventy eight. Don’t give up!

I think we’ve lost M.L. Swift and J.R. Vowles to the NaNoWriMo heavens… their last counts, are the last ones we have. Let us know how it’s going gents!

Christine Fichtner hasn’t posted a new count, but was at a healthy thirty thousand last I posted and she’s informed me that she’s at thirty eight thousand now! Home stretch Christine! You’ve got this!

Valourbörn hasn’t posted an update either, hopefully Alex is still crushing the word count, especially after getting back on track!

ElitistGeek was sitting at twenty seven thousand last week and I’ve noticed the old tracker is at a delightful thirty six and a half thousand.

Nikki and her Novel are sitting pretty around thirty eight thousand. Here’s to hoping she makes up the smidgent she’s missed and I’m confident she’ll get it done!

Morrighan and her Muse are sitting at thirty three thousand, which is a bit behind but nothing to worry about! I think she’ll definitely pull through in the days ahead. Hopefully she’ll leave the editing for December and just focus on the art of writing! Not that editing is a bad thing, but November is National Novel Writing Month, not National Novel Writing and Editing Month (Man, that’d be a mouthful… NaNoWriEdMo)!

I think there will be a few who will achieve the fifty thousand word goal they’ve set for themselves! This is a great effort whether you wrote five hundred or fifty thousand. To write is what we are celebrating! You’re all winners in my book and I’d like to see you all celebrate the win of making the effort and the time to write this month! It’s not easy, especially in the holiday season!

As for me… I’m embarrassingly still at the eighty five thousand mark of editing my novel. My partner wants to read it so badly and I guess as this is my first foray into seriously looking at publication, I’m nervous for anyone to read it. I could finish it tomorrow. I could finish it right now. But a part of me is purposely holding back and I can tell. Some of my writing is really well done, but I definitely feel I could easily add another ten thousand words in description alone as the story is so dialogue heavy.

Either way, I’ve got to rewrite a continuation of The Journey and I’ll post it ASAP! Blah! Cheer on the above writers and reach out,  follow and like them! Maybe that will get them back into the swing of things! Later and wish me luck!

In a last line to all you NaNoWriMoers out there… think of it like this, until December, Deleting is a form of Censorship! Get those words out there and hit those numbers!

In my opinion, editing is a million times harder than just plain ol’ writing it out, so kudos to you! Really not looking forward to editing once my current project is over. And after this month of words lost into the abyss…I have to agree. The computers are going to kill us all, even if it’s only by demoralizing our word counts until we drown in our own tears.

So true… I remembered one day I had typed up a good two thousand words and then the word count went backwards by some glitch! That was heartbreaking and demoralizing all in one fell swoop. Something tells me when the computers rise up, writers are first on their list to go.

Ah, the cruel whims of technology. How fickle it can be.

As for NaNoWriMo, I’m still caught up at 38 366 words. Hopefully I get my biology lab report done early tonight and can get in all my 1667 words for today!

For everyone here who’s behind, just keep on going! As long as you write at least one–just one–word every day, you’ll have more words written today than you did yesterday. That’s all that matters 🙂

Sweet! North of 40k is incredible! Let me know when you hit 50k so I can post you to my blog as hitting your target! That’s fantastic, I wish I could edit my final 15k… but work has been finding new and innovative ways to destroy my productivity around writing!

    • TJ Edwards says:

Yeah, Technology makes life so much easier, until it stops completely… and then we’re like, what did we do before this?

Nice work on the NaNoWriMo count! I have faith you’ll smash it out! I also like the progress for the sake of progress like philosophy of your one more word line there!

    Here’s the latest update… 11,620.

Woohoo!! I crossed the 10k mark. I really like where my story is going. I did use your advice of playing a particular song to set the mood for a scene. It worked wonders.

    • TJ Edwards says:

Sweet glad some advice could help! Also, awesome that you made it over 10k! Push for that 15k mark… and then before you know it, you’re already at 20k!

Sometimes the music can really change your writing depending on what is going on in the scene. Every time I hear Adele’s Rolling in the Deep I can’t help but picture a swordsman cleaving his way through an army as he avenges his slain wife. Don’t know why, but some of the lines and the tune draw it out of me!

  4. so sorry to hear about you technological issues. that has to be so frustrating. and in the midst of all that, here you are encouraging others. just wonderful! your spirit is contagious. always a joy to read your posts!

    • TJ Edwards says:

Bah, technology aside, perhaps it was fate to save me from posting something sub par. I don’t bother getting frustrated, I know my rewrite will be better!

I’m glad you find the spirit contagious! Right now I feel like a pinata that has had the stuffing knocked out of it… I do have the next two days off, so hopefully that’ll be good! I want to catch up on some writing/editing/crafting!

  5. Speaking of damned technology, I had a whole reply typed but I clicked away from it and poof! Gone. AUGH

Anyway, I wish you luck with your rewrite, and who knows, maybe it will lead to something you didn’t expect. 🙂 My NaNo is at 41K and climbing. Looking forward to crossing that finish line. 😀

Have to love it when that happens right? The worst thing I’ve ever done was while writing in an simple application (no distraction writing word processor) I managed to hit the shortcut for close after writing four thousand words. It took a few days to get back on that horse, but once I did, the story got better! I guess sometimes these things happen for a reason, right?

Also, 41k!? So close! You’ll make it, but I think this is most likely a breeze for you! Probably a nice relaxing break! Hopefully good things are right around the corner for both of us and our writing! Good luck with that last 9k!

Drop me a line, wait for my reply!
